Custom 3D Prints

These are all projects I have sketched, modelled and 3D printed. They all started as an idea to solve a problem that I created for myself, such as, wanting to undermount power supplies on the desk I made, or wanting overhead lighting that I could move around. I would then take measurements of the object I wanted to support, with in mind where the cables would come in and out of it, how thick I should make it so it doesn’t warp with heat, bend under the sustained load over long periods of time, or cause overheating problems due to insufficient airflow.

These were all problems I had to account for when I was sketching the designs, and would keep a minimalized approach to supports, or hanging brackets. Additionally for my overhead lighting problem, I had to make three iterations as the first immediately failed since it was too weak, so the first solution was I printed a sleave for it to be superglued over top to reinforce the joint that would see the greatest bending moment caused by the articulating lamp arm. This solution lasted for a few months before failing in the section between the monitor stand connection and the lamp holder. To fix this I made the lamp holder taper so that the force was distributed over a larger area, and I increased the infill in the failed section to make it stronger. So far this third iteration has not failed, and I am able to position the light wherever I need it above my desk.
